The first thing that should be done in candle making is to prepare the moulds. Remember that each type of mold may have different characteristics and may result to different types of finished product. For beginners, it may be easier to use a plastic candle mold or a rubber mold. However, for professional looking candles, metal candle molds are best to be used.
The finished candles made from metal candles usually have a smooth surface and do not have the strong odor that is present in candles made from rubber molds. The second step to making homemade candles is to melt the wax. Place the wax on any container such as a coffee can or a tin can and have it heated. Stir occasionally as needed and remove any impurities such as charred wick ends if old candles are used.
If a colored candle is desired, crayons can be added into the melting wax.Once the wax has been thoroughly melted, let it cool for a few minutes and then pour it into the candle mold. Insert the wick and leave the wax to harden. A portion of the wick should protrude from the wax.The candle can be removed from the candle mold once it has hardened. Depending on the type of candle making mold used, a releasing agent may or may not be used to facilitate faster and easier removal of the candle from the mold.
